(TheConservativeTimes.org) – Betting it all on the legal system as a way to obstruct President Trump, several liberal states just filed a lawsuit in an attempt to block an “unelected billionaire.”
14 Democrat-led states have joined forces against Elon Musk and the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), challenging their constitutional authority to cut costs and eliminate bureaucratic bloat.
Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes stated:
“The founders of this country would be outraged that, 250 years after our nation overthrew a king, the people of this country—many of whom have fought and died to protect our freedoms—are now subject to the whims of a single unelected billionaire.”
Spearheaded by Democrat attorneys general, the lawsuit claims President Trump violated the Constitution by creating DOGE without congressional approval and granting Musk extensive powers without Senate confirmation.
“As a result, he has transformed a minor position that was formerly responsible for managing government websites into a designated agent of chaos without limitation and in violation of the separation of powers,” the attorneys general stated.
These liberal states are seeking a court order to prevent Musk from canceling contracts, changing government funding, and making major personnel decisions.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt dismissed this lawsuit as yet another baseless legal attack against President Trump.
She stated, “The White House will continue to fight these battles in court, and we expect to be vindicated.”
Despite these attempts to derail progress, President Trump remains steadfast in his support for Musk and DOGE, emphasizing their crucial role in reducing the size and cost of the federal government.
“We have to make our government smaller, more efficient, more effective and a lot less expensive, and we could find a trillion dollars,” the president remarked.
“But we’re being hindered by courts where they file in certain courts where it’s very hard to win and a judge will stop us,” he continued.
DOGE was established by executive order on January 20, 2025, with the clear mandate to recommend federal budget cuts and reduce expenditures by $500 billion annually.
The lawsuit, filed in Washington, D.C., cites constitutional provisions to argue that Musk’s actions should only be performed by a nominated and Senate-confirmed official.
It also demands that Musk identify and destroy any “unlawfully obtained data” and prevent changes in public fund disbursement.
Musk’s team has been investigating government agencies for waste, fraud, and abuse. He has called for the elimination of entire federal agencies to cut spending and restructure priorities.
“Move fast and breaking things may work in Silicon Valley for a tech company, It’s not good governance and it’s unconstitutional,” expressed New Mexico Attorney General Raúl Torrez.
