(TheConservativeTimes.org) – Amazon plans on bringing all of its employees back into the office, according to CEO Andrew Jassy. Since the start of the pandemic four years ago, Amazon has relied on remote work outside of the office, but the CEO wants a change.
Jassy said, “We’ve decided that we’re going to return to being in the office the way we were before the onset of COVID.” He continued, “When we look back over the last five years, we continue to believe that the advantages of being together in the office are significant.”
Jassy says that teams work better in person, and he believes bringing people back to the office would strengthen the company’s culture; the mandate will begin at the beginning of next year.
He added, “If you or your child were sick, if you had some sort of house emergency, if you were on the road seeing customers or partners, if you needed a day or two to finish coding in a more isolated environment, people worked remotely.”
Some experts have said that this could lead to some employee churn as many people may not be able to work in the office due to circumstances that were previously supported with remote work.
Dror Poleg, an economic historian, said that this may be a tactic to get some employees to leave the company. “Companies are using return-to-office mandates when they want to cut headcount,” said Poleg. “So the easiest way to fire employees is to force them back to the office.”
Some employees have already spoken out against the change and felt that it was “de-motivating.”
