American CEOs Quietly Going To China To Keep Business Ties Intact

( – Several American CEOs of some of the world’s most influential companies are meeting with Chinese Communist Party (CCP) officials to maintain business ties amid declining U.S.-China relations.

Tesla’s Elon Musk, Tim Cook from Apple, JP Morgan’s Jamie Dimon, Stephen Schwarzman from Blackstone, and Citigroup’s Jane Fraser were among those who traveled to China to emphasize the importance of collaboration between the two countries.

According to Reuters, none of the CEOs have spoken publicly about their foreign visits, which have mainly consisted of meetings with political leaders and business partners. The noticeable silence from the CEOs who traveled to China is allegedly to avoid political controversy due to the rising tensions between both countries.

The meetings occurred amid declining relations between the U.S. and China, which have become increasingly strained in recent years. American export limits on Chinese chips, as well as cyber security concerns over apps such as TikTok, which is owned by the state-controlled Chinese company ByteDance, have led American lawmakers to accuse the CCP of using the trying to spy on American citizens.

On the Chinese side, Beijing has recently strengthened a counter-espionage law that has resulted in the raiding of American companies operating in China. American consulting firms such as Capvision, Mintz Group, and Bain & Company have had their headquarters in China raided in the name of “national security,” according to The New York Times.

China has also promised the “peaceful reunification” of Taiwan with China. However, Beijing has not ruled out the use of military force to take the island, and President Joe Biden has said that the U.S. would defend Taiwan should China attack.

In a statement, the Chinese foreign ministry said that meetings from the CEOs were a “vote of confidence” in the Chinese economy and that their trips were kept low-key due to what it called America’s “wrong policy” of trying to contain China.
