(TheConservativeTimes.org) – Exposing the dangerous reality elected officials currently face in America, authorities uncovered a chilling plot to assassinate a Democrat congressman.
Rep. Jared Moskowitz of Florida narrowly escaped a potential murder attempt thanks to swift action by local law enforcement.
Just one day before the election, Margate Police Department alerted Rep. Moskowitz about a serious threat to his life.
An armed man identified as John Lapinski was arrested near the congressman’s home in Florida.
Lapinski, who is a former felon, had a rifle, suppressor and body armor – a clear indication that he intended to kill.
Most disturbing of all, authorities discovered a manifesto containing antisemitic rhetoric with Rep. Moskowitz’s name as the sole target.
This document exposed the suspect’s hateful motivations and underscored the very real dangers Jewish Americans face in today’s politically charged climate.
The Margate Police Department swiftly arrested Lapinski on charges of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and other firearms-related offenses.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is now leading the ongoing investigation, with assistance from local and federal agencies.
According to U.S. Capitol Police, there were over 8,000 threat assessments opened against members of Congress last year alone.
In an ironic turn of events, Moskowitz stated, “As someone who was appointed to the Task Force on the Attempted Assassination of Donald J. Trump, I understand the failures and importance of fixing the protection of our current and future Commander-In-Chief and Vice President.”
“At the same time, I am deeply worried about Congressional member security and the significant lack thereof when we are in the district. Regardless of our political affiliations or differences, we all have families we want to keep safe,” he added.
The congressman’s concerns are well-founded, especially in light of recent attempts on President-elect Donald Trump’s life.
Just last month, the Department of Justice charged an Iranian operative with plotting to assassinate Trump before the election.
