(TheConservativeTimes.org) – Due to her tireless fight to maintain single-sex facilities and protect women, Republican Rep. Nancy Mace was physically assaulted on Capitol grounds.
The attack has been linked to her stance on transgender rights, which seeks to ensure women’s safety and privacy in public spaces.
U.S. Capitol Police arrested James McIntyre, a 33-year-old from Illinois, for assaulting Mace in the Rayburn House Office Building.
The incident occurred while the building was open to the public, raising concerns about security measures for lawmakers.
Mace, who recently introduced a bill to ban transgender individuals from using restrooms that align with their gender identity on Capitol Hill, quickly connected the attack to her efforts to protect women’s rights.
The South Carolina representative has been vocal about her experiences as a survivor of sexual abuse, which steers her drive to enforce single-sex facility use based on biological sex.
House Speaker Mike Johnson has thrown his support behind Mace’s bill. He emphasized the importance of maintaining single-sex facilities while noting that unisex restrooms were available.
“I was physically accosted tonight on Capitol grounds over my fight to protect women. Capitol police have arrested him,” Mace declared.
“All the violence and threats keep proving our point. Women deserve to be safe. Your threats will not stop my fight for women!” she continued.
The assault on Rep. Mace comes in the wake of Sarah McBride’s election as the first openly transgender person to Congress.
McBride has criticized Mace’s bill as a distraction from real issues, but Mace remains firm in her commitment to protecting women’s rights.
“Sarah McBride doesn’t get a say in this,” Mace declared. “If you’re a biological man, you shouldn’t be in women’s restrooms.”
Despite facing threats and now physical violence, Mace refuses to back down. She sustained minor injuries from the attack, requiring a wrist brace and ice for her arm.
“I’m a survivor of sexual abuse, I have PTSD from the abuse I’ve suffered at the hands of a man, and it’s so weird and dangerous and perverted, this idea that it’s OK for a naked man to be in a locker room with women, it’s insanity to me, and this has got to stop,” Mace stated.
