(TheConservativeTimes.org) – Liberal Hollywood elites have once again shown that they are above the law as Alec Baldwin escaped charges in the tragic shooting death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.
New Mexico prosecutors have withdrawn their appeal, effectively ending the involuntary manslaughter case against the outspoken anti-Trump actor.
The Santa Fe District Attorney’s Office has dropped its appeal against the dismissal of charges, leaving Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer’s decision intact.
This means Baldwin will not face court again for his role in the fatal shooting on the ‘Rust’ movie set.
The case was initially dismissed due to allegations that police and prosecutors had withheld crucial evidence.
Special Prosecutor Kari Morrissey’s withdrawal of the appeal marks the end of a case that has been controversial from the start.
Baldwin’s lawyers have consistently maintained his innocence, framing the incident as a tragic accident rather than a criminal offense.
Additionally, the judge slammed the prosecution for willfully withholding information, suggesting it was close to bad faith.
“Today’s decision to dismiss the appeal is the final vindication of what Alec Baldwin and his attorneys have said from the beginning — this was an unspeakable tragedy but Alec Baldwin committed no crime,” said defense attorneys Luke Nikas and Alex Spiro.
“The rule of law remains intact in New Mexico,” they added while celebrating the ruling.
While Baldwin’s legal team praised this “vindication,” the fact remains that a talented cinematographer lost her life on set.
Still, Armorer Hannah Gutierrez Reed was convicted of loading a live round into the revolver used by Baldwin.
In turn, local prosecutors explained, “As a result, the State’s efforts to continue to litigate the case in a fair and comprehensive manner have been met with multiple barriers that have compromised its ability to prosecute to the fullest extent of the law.”
While the criminal case may be closed, several civil lawsuits have been filed against Baldwin and the ‘Rust’ producers, including by Hutchins’ family.
These lawsuits may provide the only path to justice for the victim’s loved ones as the criminal justice system appears to have failed them.
