CEO Of Telegram Messaging App Found and Arrested in France

(TheConservativeTimes.org) – Pavel Durov, the CEO of the Telegram messaging app, was arrested at the Le Bourget airport right outside of Paris after landing. Dirov is a Russian-born billionaire, and Moscow quickly spoke to Paris to ensure that his rights were given to him.

This was confirmed by two French police officers who stated they spotted his name on the manifest list and went on to arrest him due to an active warrant for his arrest in France.

“Telegram abides by EU laws, including the Digital Services Act — its moderation is within industry standards and constantly improving,” Telegram said after the arrest. “Telegram’s CEO Pavel Durov has nothing to hide and travels frequently in Europe. It is absurd to claim that a platform or its owner is responsible for abuse of that platform.”

Durov was arrested as a part of a preliminary police investigation that stated he knew about various crimes due to the lack of moderation on Telegram and also for not cooperating with law enforcement.

The cybersecurity gendarmerie unit and France’s national anti-fraud police unit are leading the investigation and have said that the investigative judge specialized in organized crime. Telegram added, “We’re awaiting a prompt resolution of this situation. Telegram is with you all.”

Telegram was founded by Durov in Dubai, and it is now known as a popular social media platform. It has over one billion users and is predominant in countries including Russia and Ukraine. Durov, whose net worth is now over fifteen billion, has said that Telegram is not a “player in geopolitics” and that the app should remain a neutral platform.

Since the start of the Ukraine-Russian war, Telegram has been the source of many social media posts that are misleading or sometimes even graphic in relation to the ongoing war. It’s become a controversial platform due to the heavy usage of Ukraine’s President Zelenskiy and also the Russian government.

Telegram says it “is committed to protecting user privacy and human rights such as freedom of speech and assembly.” The app has been under scrutiny before as they have accused U.S. Law enforcement agencies of trying to use a backdoor to get into the platform.
