(TheConservativeTimes.org) – Beloved Hollywood icon Denzel Washington has opened up about his decade-long journey to sobriety, admitting he did a lot of damage with dependency on alcohol, specifically wine, which he described as “very tricky.”

In a recent interview, Washington shared how alcohol started intruding on his life nearly a decade ago when he was 60 years old.

He described his fondness for wine tastings that gradually escalated, leading him to spend thousands on expensive bottles kept in a wine cellar at home.

“I’ve done a lot of damage to the body. We’ll see. I’ve been clean. Be ten years this December,” the actor stated.

He continued, “Wine is very tricky. It’s very slow. It ain’t like, boom, all of a sudden,” he stated, acknowledging the subtle yet dangerous of his vice.

The actor never struggled with hard drugs, saying, “I never got strung out on heroin. Never got strung out on coke. Never got strung out on hard drugs.”

However, he admitted that during breaks in his acting projects, he indulged heavily in wine, causing significant damage to his health over 15 years.

Despite this, his drinking patterns went unnoticed for a long time due to his professional success and ability to stay productive.

Moreover, Washington reflected on the lengths he went to curb his wine consumption by limiting orders to two bottles. He mentioned, “Because if I order more, I’ll drink more.”

Motivated by his past unhappiness with his appearance, he has embraced a healthier lifestyle through training and meal planning, aiming for more strength and agility, crucial for his role in the movie Gladiator II.

“My good friend, my little brother, Lenny Kravitz, said, ‘D, I wanna hook you up with a trainer.’ And he did, and he’s another man of God. I started with him in February of last year,” the Hollywood star recounted.
