Florida’s COVID Booster Information is Completely Full of Misinformation

(TheConservativeTimes.org) – Since there’s been a push for another round of COVID booster shots, there’s been an unfortunate amount of misinformation associated with it as well. In Florida, the Florida Health Department is telling elderly Floridians and others at high risk for COVID to avoid most booster shots saying that they are potentially dangerous.

Scientists and clinicians have denounced this message and said that it is weakening efforts to protect against diseases like measles and whooping cough. A specific Florida doctor expressed dismay at the comments of the state and has been trying to counter the anti-vaccine messages from Surgeon General Joseph Ladapo.

They have made multiple unproven claims about the efficacy and safety of the mRNA-based COVID vaccines being supplied by Moderna and Pfizer while saying that they could “threaten the integrity of the human genome.” John Moore, a professor of microbiology at Weill Cornell Medicine, said that Florida’s guidance has reflected ideas from anti-vaccine websites.

Governor DeSantis has referred questions to the health department, and Ladapo hasn’t reached out for comments regarding his claims. DeSantis has said that the guidance and citations “speak for themselves” and he has previously said that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, as well as the FDA, have been “gaslighting Americans.”

He has often positioned himself as someone who is against vaccine mandates, lockdowns, and restrictive public health protections that were adopted during the pandemic, such as quarantining.

“What you see is a pattern of fear and neglect of professional responsibilities across the state, in part because of the fear of this governor and the vindictiveness of this governor,” said Goldhagen, a former health department director in Florida.
