Emphasizing his commitment to conservative values, Senator Tommy Tuberville has officially launched his campaign to become Alabama’s next governor.

The senator is a vocal Trump ally and supports his America First agenda, previously stating, “God sent us Donald Trump.”

The former Auburn football coach announced his bid at a barbecue restaurant in Auburn, positioning himself as the clear frontrunner in the 2026 gubernatorial race.

Tuberville’s strong ties to the president and his promise to propel Alabama forward have already garnered significant support from conservative voters.

“We’re going to bring manufacturing to this state. We’re going to stop this illegal immigration. We’re going to make education better again, and we’re going to do everything possible to make sure our kids…stay in this state and work,” Tuberville promised.

The senator also highlighted that his background make him uniquely qualified to lead the state.

“I’m a football coach. I’m a leader. I’m a builder. I’m a recruiter, and we’re going to grow Alabama,” Tuberville stated during his announcement.

His declaration effectively ends weeks of speculation about his political future and creates a significant opening for his Senate seat in 2026.

The senator’s priorities align closely with President Trump’s agenda, reinforcing Tuberville’s position as a strong conservative candidate who will advance MAGA policies at the state level.

His campaign website prominently features his commitment to “conservative Alabama values.”

The senator’s decision makes him the first Republican to announce for the 2026 primary, especially significant after Lieutenant Governor Will Ainsworth opted not to run.

Political analysts suggest Tuberville’s entrance into the race may deter other strong candidates from challenging him.

“We’ve gotta help President Trump. He got elected by almost 80 million people. They gave us a mandate. Let’s get it done,” Tuberville declared.

Tuberville’s political rise has been meteoric since transitioning from his coaching career.

He leveraged his fame from leading Auburn University’s football program from 1999 to 2008 to win a U.S. Senate seat in 2020.

That year, Tuberville defeated former U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions in the Republican primary with President Trump’s endorsement.

The Alabama Democrat Party has criticized Tuberville’s announcement, labeling him as “arrogant and extreme.”

However, their complaints will likely fall on deaf ears in a state that has not elected a Democrat governor since 1998 and where Republicans have dominated recent general elections.

Tuberville has already secured support from influential conservative groups like Club for Growth, further solidifying his position as the candidate to beat.

He will be running to succeed Kay Ivey, who has been in office since 2017 and is ineligible for another term.

The senator’s commitment to confronting Biden administration policies was evident during his time in Washington.

He led a 10-month campaign against military promotions due to the Defense Department’s abortion policy.

This fighting spirit and willingness to stand up for conservative values will be central to his gubernatorial campaign.
