After eight grueling days of testimony and careful deliberation, a jury convicted Leilani Simon on all 19 charges, including malice murder, felony murder, concealing death, and making false statements.
The verdict was reached after just two hours of deliberation on Thursday and a brief continuation on Friday morning.
The case began in October 2022, when Simon reported her 20-month-old son, Quinton Simon, missing, claiming he had disappeared from his playpen.
Yet, this lie set off a massive search operation, wasting valuable police resources and taxpayer money. Chatham County Police Chief Jeff Hadley quickly identified Simon as the sole suspect.
As the investigation unfolded, police and FBI agents focused their efforts on a landfill two weeks after Quinton’s reported disappearance.
