Harris Opposes the Sale of United States Steel to Japanese Firm

(TheConservativeTimes.org) – Kamala Harris, Vice President and Democratic Presidential nominee, opposed the sale of United States steel to a Japanese firm during her speech in Pittsburgh.

She stated that United States steel should be domestically owned. Her remarks come after previous talks that the White House was opposed to the sale to Japan’s Nippon Steel. Harris said, “U.S. steel should remain American-owned and American-operated.”

President Joe Biden opposed the sale to Nippon as well, saying that American steel companies should be run by American workers.

Said Biden, “United States Steel, an iconic American company for more than a century, is going to remain an American company.”

The agreement for the sale was confirmed in December, and U.S. Steel said that their merger is expected to be completed in the “second half of 2024, subject to the fulfillment of the remaining, customary closing conditions, including the recipe of required U.S. regulatory approvals.”

Kamala Harris hasn’t spoken directly about many policies, but this one shows her true position on the situation. She has described herself as a “new way forward,” and her policies seem on par with the policies that President Joe Biden has pushed.

In a recent rally, Harris said, “We fight for a future where we build what I call an opportunity economy, so that every American has the opportunity to own a home, start a business and to build wealth and intergenerational wealth.”
