(TheConservativeTimes.org) – The UN agency for Palestinian refugees, or UNRWA, has levied accusations that the Israeli Government is “buying ads on Google to block users from giving donations to the agency.”
Philippe Lazzarini, UNRWA Commissioner-General, said that their attempt to defame the agency can harm their reputation and put the lives of the staff at risk.
“These deliberate efforts to spread misinformation should stop and be investigated,” Lazzarini wrote. “The spread of misinformation & disinformation continues to be used as a weapon in the war in Gaza.”
UNRWA is the main organization delivering aid to Palestianians, and Israel has campaigned against the agency for years.
David Mercer has criticized Lazzarini often and even publicly states that the agency has been infiltrated with Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad. The UN stated that these comments were “reprehensible” and said that it could put Lazzarini in danger.
Israel stated earlier this year that some of the agency’s staff was even a part of the Hamas-led attack that took place on October 7.
A review authorized by the UN found that Israel didn’t provide enough credible evidence for its accusations. Israeli attacks in Gaza have often targeted UNRWA facilities, killing at least two hundred of its staff, and hit seventy percent of their schools.
Since Israel’s war on Gaza started, at least forty thousand people have been killed and over ninety thousand people have been injured; the worldwide attention of the war has also begun to bring in more activity from other countries.
