(TheConservativeTimes.org) – This week, while her son Hunter faces scrutiny in Congress and his “sweetheart” plea deal fell apart in court, First Lady Jill Biden was in France ostensibly to attend an official flag-raising ceremony at UNESCO headquarters in Paris.
The first lady delivered remarks at the flag-raising ceremony marking the US’s official reentry into the UN agency after the Trump administration pulled out in 2018 over the agency’s anti-Israel bias, the Associated Press reported. Before the American flag was raised again over UNESCO’s Paris headquarters, the first lady spoke of the importance of US leadership in empowering education and science worldwide.
Mrs. Biden referred to the raising of the US flag as a “symbol of our commitment to global cooperation and peace.” She claimed that the US returning to UNESCO exemplifies President Biden’s vow to restore US leadership on the world stage.
The Biden administration announced its intention for the US to reenter UNESCO last month. The agency’s 193 member countries voted to approve the US reentry in July. After attending the flag-raising ceremony, the first lady traveled to the Brittany American Cemetary to honor the US soldiers who lost their lives during the Second World War.
The first lady concluded her trip to France at the Benedictine Abbey at Mont-Saint-Michel, a UNESCO world heritage site, where she underscored the importance of preserving heritage sites around the globe. Mrs. Biden was accompanied by her 42-year-old daughter Ashley on the trip.
Meanwhile, as Jill was seeing the sights in France, her son Hunter pleaded not guilty to two misdemeanor tax charges and a federal gun charge after the plea agreement arranged with prosecutors fell apart.
