(TheConservativeTimes.org) – Renowned actor Kevin Costner has shocked conservatives by taking an unexpected stand in Liz Cheney’s favor.
Costner praised Cheney, a Republican politician often at odds with her own party, for choosing principles over party loyalty.
The iconic actor known for his role in “Yellowstone” expressed admiration for Cheney in a statement.
He said, “I expect people in government to do the right thing. Public service is about public service. It’s not about your career. It’s not about your ego. Your four years is your four years.”
Despite her controversial reputation in Republican circles, Costner’s outspoken support for Cheney highlights an admiration for her alleged integrity.
Cheney became a vocal critic of President-elect Donald Trump, especially after the January 6, 2021, riots.
Knowing he could face potential backlash, Costner remained undeterred and openly supported Cheney in the 2022 midterm elections.
His backing came despite knowing she had little to no chance in a heated primary against a Trump-backed candidate.
Wearing a pro-Cheney T-shirt and unyielding in his convictions, Costner noted, “I’m very proud of Liz Cheney. I found a person completely at odds with one side willing to stand up.”
Costner’s political involvement prompted fierce scrutiny and caused some fans to criticize his political stance.
Still, Costner remained unbothered and explained that his words were less about popularity and more about resonating with American values.
He asserted, “I didn’t really care how the cookie crumbles, that people that liked me now don’t like me. That’s OK.”
