(TheConservativeTimes.org) – As innocent Americans are at risk of losing their lives and their properties, authorities have ordered mass evacuations in North and South Carolina.

A 400-acre wildfire in North Carolina’s Polk County, started by a downed power line on US Highway 176, continues to rage with zero containment.

Residents along the highway between the small towns of Tryon and Saluda, about 40 miles south of Asheville, have been ordered to evacuate their homes and seek shelter as firefighters battle the spreading flames.

In South Carolina, the situation is even more dire. A massive wildfire in the Carolina Forest area near Myrtle Beach has grown to at least 1,200 acres, forcing evacuations from seven neighborhoods including Spring Lake and Waterford.

Over 50 Americans have been displaced, seeking refuge at a Red Cross shelter set up at the Carolina Forest Recreation Center.

Multiple fire agencies from across the Carolinas have stepped up to assist Horry County crews, including departments from Williamsburg County, North Myrtle Beach, Myrtle Beach, Conway, and Dillon County.

State agencies are providing aerial support, including Blackhawk helicopters, to address hotspots.

“Our first responders and firefighters are risking their lives to contain many fires across South Carolina tonight,” said Governor Henry McMaster.

The South Carolina Forestry Commission has issued a statewide burn ban after over 100 ignitions were reported, with officials working around the clock to prevent further devastation.

State Rep. Tim McGinnis confirmed that planes, a Blackhawk helicopter, and tractors are being deployed to help contain the fire.

The National Weather Service had issued a red flag warning that expired late Saturday night.

Still, conditions remain dangerous due to “dry fuel and low relative humidity” that continue to feed the fires.

Horry County officials report they are “monitoring the weather forecast and preparing to adjust course in our life safety and property protection plan should conditions evolve.”

Meanwhile, firefighters in North Carolina are also battling two additional wildfires in Buncombe County.

Local fire departments and personnel from the North Carolina Forest Service are working tirelessly to contain these blazes, and emergency shelters have been established for displaced residents.

There is currently no timeline for when any of the evacuated residents can return to their homes.
