(TheConservativeTimes.org) – During his podcast, “Club Random,” comedian Bill Maher complemented entrepreneur and 2024 presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy, stating that he has an advantage in youth and looks compared to President Biden and former President Donald Trump. However, Maher, whose politics are notably liberal, critiqued Ramaswamy, stating that he lacked wisdom on issues and was too close to Trump. However, Ramaswamy countered that he could unify the country and that his motivation for not attacking Trump was out of good faith, as opposed to Chris Christie.
Ramaswamy believes Christie’s anti-Trump rhetoric is motivated by vengeance and grievance. Chris Christie, the former New Jersey Governor, and 2024 Republican presidential contender, has attacked Trump repeatedly, stating that the grand jury indictments against Trump were justified. In contrast, Ramaswamy has repeatedly slammed the jury indictments, saying they are a politicized move against the Republican frontrunner and a method for the Biden administration to persecute Trump for his political beliefs.
Christie and Ramaswamy will face one another in the upcoming Republican National Committee primary debate in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Trump will not be attending, opting for an interview with former Fox News host Tucker Carlson and then surrendering himself to the Fulton County jail for his criminal indictment in Georgia.
According to FiveThirtyEight aggregate polling, Trump currently leads the race by almost a 40-point lead with 52.5%, followed by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis at 15.2%, Ramaswamy at 9.3%, former Vice President Mike Pence at 4.7%, former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley at 3.5%, Christie at 3.5%, South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott at 3.4%, former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson at 0.7%, and North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum at 0.4%. All other candidates are polling below 1% and have not qualified for the debate.
Ultimately, Maher is still skeptical of Trump and Republicans, saying they have had a history of racism. However, he believes that Ramaswamy holding an appeal in the party signals that Republicans are moving in the right direction. The performance of Ramaswamy at the upcoming debate could likely make or break his campaign and his further appeal to the Republican party going forward in the primary.
