(TheConservativeTimes.org) – America is now vulnerable to devastating attacks, as massive cyber-attacks are underway by the communist country of China’s cyber army.
FBI Director Christopher Wray has sounded the alarm, warning of a “massive” threat from Chinese hackers targeting everything from the power grid to water supply.
His warning comes as reports show a shocking 75% surge in global cyber-attacks in just the third quarter of 2024, with America squarely in the crosshairs.
Moreover, this digital assault is a shadowy Chinese hacking group known as the Volt Typhoon.
These cyber terrorists have already infiltrated critical U.S. infrastructure sectors, including communications, energy, and water systems.
Their potential to disrupt essential services like heating, air conditioning, and even surveillance systems poses a clear and present danger to American security.
In addition, exploiting vulnerabilities in trusted security devices and using outdated routers to remain undetected, these digital invaders have managed to persist in American IT environments for over five years.
“The PRC [People’s Republic of China] has made it clear that it considers every sector that makes our society run as fair game in its bid to dominate on the world stage, and that its plan is to land low blows against civilian infrastructure to try to induce panic and break America’s will to resist,” Director Wray stated.
The consequences of this cyber warfare are dire as financial services company Moody’s has already labeled critical infrastructure assets as “credit negative” due to these vulnerabilities.
The U.S., with its extensive utility network and outdated energy sector plan, is particularly susceptible to these attacks.
Experts warn that GPS spoofing could lead to power grid desynchronization, potentially plunging entire regions into darkness.
Furthermore, AI expert Craig Huey revealed an even more chilling aspect of this digital invasion.
“There are also concerns about the invasion of individual Americans’ privacy,” he warned. “They’re accessing our texts, emails, and voicemails, as well as our online and social media accounts.”
Meanwhile, the threat extends beyond mere espionage. China’s military is leveraging artificial intelligence to enhance its cyber-attack capabilities, creating a formidable adversary in the digital battlefield.
