(TheConservativeTimes.org) – Republican House Speaker Kevin McCarthy touted the possibility of the impeachment of Attorney General Merrick Garland, provided that House Republicans “get the facts,” McCarthy wrote in a Tweet.
The possibility of Garland’s impeachment revolves around an Internal Revenue Service (IRS) whistleblower’s allegation concerning the attorney general’s possible involvement in the agency’s investigation into Hunter Biden, the son of President Joe Biden. Hunter Biden recently accepted a deal to plead guilty to misdemeanor tax charges and will likely face no jail time.
The whistleblower, Gary Shapley, testified that the U.S. attorney in charge of the criminal investigation into Hunter Biden’s tax dealings wanted to bring charges against him, but the Justice Department promptly denied him.
On Monday, June 26, McCarthy appeared on “Fox and Friends” reiterating his tweet about a possible impeachment inquiry into the attorney general. He told “Fox and Friends” host Brian Kilmeade that if the IRS whistleblower allegations turn out to be true, then impeachment inquiries will commence.
The news comes as Republicans continue to criticize the Biden administration for slapping Hunter Biden on the wrist, comparing it to former President Donald Trump’s recent federal indictment, which contains 37 felony charges related to the mishandling of classified documents.
Many Republicans say that the Biden administration is giving the president’s son a free pass while it continues persecuting its biggest political opponent in the 2024 presidential race.
The possibility of an impeachment of Garland also looms in the wake of House Democrats’ two impeachments of Trump, which Republicans widely see as Democrats’ way of abusing power to oust Trump from office for purely political reasons.
The news also comes after Republican Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene’s renewal of calls to impeach President Biden. Greene called the President “a corrupt criminal” and blasted his approach to immigration policy as the administration continues to let in waves of migrants at the Southern border.
