People Criticize Google’s AI-Generated Images?!

Google Pauses AI Images After Criticism

( – Google has put a hold on their new AI model which produces images of people since many criticized the model after it showed a German World War II soldier and Vikings as people of color.

Google said that it would stop its Gemini model, the AI model after people shared images on social media that were generated by Gemini, which showed people of power like popes or the founding fathers of the United States as different genders or ethnicities.

Google spoke out in a statement saying, “We’re already working to address recent issues with Gemini’s image generation feature. While we do this, we’re going to pause the image generation of people and will rerelease an improved version soon.”

Many of these images were shared on X while people called out Gemiini and Google for their false representation in the images and called out its accuracy and issues with AI bias. One former Google employee spoke out on the situation saying that they did have trouble because it was “hard to get Google Gemini to acknowledge that white people exist”.

Jack Krawczyk, who is a senior director on Google’s Gemini team said, “We’re working to improve these kinds of depictions immediately.”

“Gemini’s AI image generation does generate a wide range of people. And that’s generally a good thing because people around the world use it. But it’s missing the mark here,” Krawczyk said.

Andrew Rogoyski, who is from the Institute of People-Centered AI at the University of Surrey said “There is a lot of research and a lot of different approaches to eliminating bias, from curating training datasets to introducing guardrails for trained models.” He continued, “It’s likely that AIs and LLMs will continue to make mistakes but it’s also likely that this will improve over time.”

Experts have said that AI may take time and it’ll take a lot of time to train the AI and get things to be as accurate as possible, especially with image and video generators.
