(TheConservativeTimes.org) – Following Hamas’ brutal and deadly surprise attack in Israel and in the wake of pro-Hamas rallies throughout cities in the United States, police in major metropolitan areas began increasing patrols around synagogues and other Jewish locations.
According to KABC in Los Angeles, the LAPD began stepping up patrols in both Jewish and Muslim communities to ensure their safety.
Likewise, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department announced in a statement that it would conduct extra patrols in the county and was working with local and federal law enforcement to “monitor the situation.”
A Santa Monica Police Department watch commander told City News Service that there are extra cars on the street and periodic checks are being done.
In New York City where pro-Hamas demonstrators have taken to the streets in support of the terrorist attacks, the NYPD has ramped up patrols in Jewish neighborhoods in all five boroughs of the city to prevent possible violence, WABC in New York reported.
The NYPD Counterterrorism and Intelligence Division said in a statement that it was on high alert and additional security measures have been put in place at multiple sensitive locations, including synagogues and churches, that could become targets of reprisals.
NYPD officers were also out in force at the United Nations on Sunday as hundreds of pro-Hamas protesters gathered. Metal barricades were erected on the sidewalks to separate the pro-Hamas protesters from pro-Israel demonstrators on the other side of the street.
Meanwhile, Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman is working with law enforcement to protect the Long Island Jewish community. Blakeman told WABC that the county is doing everything in its power to ensure their safety.
American citizens were among the 1,200 killed by Hamas last Saturday.
In his remarks on Tuesday, President Biden confirmed that Americans are also among those currently held hostage in Gaza by Hamas.
