(TheConservativeTimes.org) – The patriotic duty of voting could have turned into a major tragedy as a Georgia poll worker was arrested for threatening fellow election staff.
25-year-old Nicholas Wimbish faces serious charges after mailing a bomb threat to Jones County election officials.
Wimbish, who had been working as a poll worker, sent a threatening letter to the Jones County Elections Superintendent after a verbal fight with a voter.
The letter, which he signed as a “Jones County Voter,” contained violent messages against poll workers, including bomb threats and promises of physical harm.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Georgia reported that Wimbish’s letter included accusations of “conspiring votes” and distracting others.
Perhaps most disturbing is the severity of the threats contained in Wimbish’s letter.
According to the Department of Justice, the letter warned that poll workers “should look over their shoulder” and included horrific threats of sexual violence against female staff.
The letter concluded with: “PS boom toy in early vote place, cigar burning, be safe.”
The FBI’s Atlanta Field Office is leading the investigation, and the Criminal Division’s Public Integrity Section and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Georgia are handling the prosecution.
If convicted, Wimbish could face up to 25 years in prison for charges including mailing a bomb threat and making false statements to the FBI.
This case falls under the jurisdiction of the Justice Department’s Election Threats Task Force, established in June 2021 to address the growing issue of threats against election workers.
Ironically, a local university publication had recognized Wimbish for his achievements and intentions to contribute to democratic processes as a poll manager.
He had allegedly said he was interested in working in election management or teaching, bragging about an academic background in public administration and political science.
