(TheConservativeTimes.org) – The International Court of Justice is facing criticism after their order for Israel to stop their military offensive in Rafah and after the rising anti-Israel bias of the UN Court’s President.
Director of the Touro Institute on Human Rights and the Holocaust, Anne Bayefsky, spoke out against the president of the UN Courts. “Put simply, the U.N.’s highest legal body is a political tool of global antisemitism. The presiding judge in this case was ICJ President Nawaf Salam. He is from Lebanon, a country that does not recognize Israel’s right to exist,” she said.
Orde Kittrie, a senior fellow at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies even spoke out at the beginning of the year saying that Judge Salam’s political activism in Lebanon has contributed to his bias against Israel and violates the International Court of Justice rules. He continued to write that “no judge may exercise any political or administrative function, or engage in any other occupation of a professional nature.”
In the last two elections for Lebanon’s Prime Minister, Salam ran and lost, and was “denouncing and casting votes against Israel’s military conduct and presence in the disputed territories.”
Salam has been called out for things he wrote on social media almost a decade ago where he said, “When we criticize and condemn Israel it is never because of the Jewish character of the majority of its population.” He also wrote, “Portraying the critics of Israel’s policies as antisemites is an attempt to intimidate and discredit them, which we reject.”
An Israeli government spokesperson said, “No power on earth will stop Israel from protecting its citizens and going after Hamas in Gaza. We will destroy Hamas, we will return peace and security to the people of Israel and to the people of Gaza. We cannot go on with a genocidal terrorist regime on our southern border.”
