Promise Kept! Conservatives Will Cheer Trump Today

Thumbs up in front of American flag.

(TheConservativeTimes.org) – Promises made, promises kept: President Donald Trump is set to sign a bombshell executive order to dismantle the Department of Education.

Scheduled for today, the bold move seeks to return educational authority to states and local communities.

It also delivers on President Trump’s longstanding pledge to free American schools from federal overreach and woke ideologies that have failed generations of students.

Education Secretary Linda McMahon has already reduced the department’s workforce by half in preparation for the shutdown.

“That was the President’s mandate,” McMahon stated. “His directive to me, clearly, is to shut down the Department of Education, which we know we’ll have to work with Congress, you know, to get that accomplished.”

The Department of Education was established in 1980 with a bloated budget of $79.1 billion for fiscal year 2024.

Conservatives have long criticized it for its ineffectiveness and ideological agenda.

President Trump has repeatedly called the department a haven for “radicals, zealots, and Marxists” who have implemented policies that undermine parental rights while failing to improve student achievement.

Although fully dissolving the agency requires congressional approval, the executive order will severely limit the department’s operations and redirect its focus.

The order will specifically prevent agency funds from supporting diversity, equity, inclusion, or gender ideology programs that many view as indoctrination rather than education.

White House spokesperson Harrison Fields emphasized the urgency of the president’s action.

He noted, “NAEP (National Assessment of Educational Progress) scores reveal a national crisis—our children are falling behind.”

Despite massive federal spending, this stagnation in educational achievement has fueled calls for a “complete reset” of America’s education system.

“Unelected bureaucrats in Washington, D.C. should not be in charge of our children’s intellectual and moral development,” said Rep. Thomas Massie, who has introduced legislation to eliminate the department by December 2026.

Critics from teachers’ unions and leftist organizations have predictably opposed the move.

National Education Association President Becky Pringle claimed:

“If successful, Trump’s continued actions will hurt all students by sending class sizes soaring, cutting job training programs, making higher education more expensive and out of reach for middle-class families, taking away special education services for students with disabilities, and gutting student civil rights protections.”

However, the administration has assured that statutory programs like the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act and Title I funding for disadvantaged students will continue.

McMahon has described the transition as “good” for American education, emphasizing that the executive order aims to expand educational opportunities by empowering parents, states, and local communities.

President Trump has also pointed to the strain illegal immigration has placed on school resources, with countless districts forced to accommodate non-English speaking students at the expense of American children.

The administration argues that by removing federal mandates, schools can better serve their local communities and respond to the actual needs of American families.

“The reality of our education system is stark, and the American people have elected President Trump to make significant changes in Washington,” stated Linda McMahon.
