(TheConservativeTimes.org) – Somerset House has begun the first phase of their reopening as investigations continue to look into a fire that occurred at the venue last week.
Over one hundred firefighters were sent in to control the flames after it began spreading to the building’s third floor and roof. The fire was contained to one part of the building, and it was reported that no artwork was damaged in the fire.
The venue’s website said that some exhibitions had reopened to the public and that the artists and creatives were expected to return as well over the next few days. “London fire brigade’s operation on site has ended and its investigation will continue,” it stated on the website.
”We would like to take this opportunity to thank all the individual firefighters of the LFB, the emergency services and our staff for ensuring everyone’s safety and preventing much greater destruction.”
“We have been very moved by expressions of support from around the world over the last few days, which has served as a reminder of how cherished Somerset House is as an arts destination and the home of cultural innovators, housing its unrivaled creative community of talented individuals and enterprises.”
The original Somerset House served as Princess Elizabeth’s home for five years until she became Queen in the mid fifteen hundreds. This particular house was demolished and replaced with a replica in the eighteen hundreds, and this is what stands today.
It’s often used for events such as London Fashion Week and is a venue for music gigs. It’s become a popular destination for residents and tourists who come to the area, which makes it a much anticipated reopening.
