(TheConservativeTimes.org) – SpaceX is planning to launch their first commercial spacewalk flight, and a well-known billionaire is supposed to be among the first to go.
Jared Issacman, a billionaire adventurer and philanthropist, attended the commercial flight into orbit aboard the SpaceX Crew Dragon in 2021. For this more daring flight, the crew will wear innovative SpaceX-designed suits and be connected to their spacecraft by twelve foot cables and safety tethers.
The two crew mates are former F-16 pilot Scott “Kidd” Poteet and Anna Menon, who was a SpaceX Crew Dragon Mission Director. These two crew members will remain inside of the cabin wearing their own suits.
The goal of this journey to space is to kick start the development of a new generation of lower cost and more flexible spacesuits. This will help open up the opportunity to send many more people to space instead of limiting space travel to just astronauts.
Said Isaacman, “My desire in human spaceflight is to move the needle.” He continued, “It is not without risk, and you’re taking that risk because you want to advance the ball forward, things that help SpaceX open up this frontier for everyone, for lots of people.”
This mission is even more special because Isaacman and his crew will fly six hundred miles farther out than the International Space Station flies. They would be going further out than any astronaut has gone since the Apollo moon missions.
Elon Musk, the founder of SpaceX, said, “This will be the first spacewalk by a commercial company and the furthest from Earth anyone has traveled in over half a century!”
