(TheConservativeTimes.org) – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelesky arrived in Granada, Spain to participate in the European Political Community Summit on Thursday where he will join other European leaders, including UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and French President Emmanuel Macron, Reuters reported.
At the summit, which was established after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine to foster cooperation between European nations, leaders are expected to reaffirm their long-term support for Ukraine.
In a post on X announcing his arrival in Grenada, Zelensky said the goal of the summit is ensuring the “security and stability of our common European home.” He said Ukraine has “substantial proposals” on “enhancing the European security architecture.”
While at the summit, Zelensky said he would focus on the Black Sea region and the “joint efforts to strengthen global food security and freedom of navigation.”
Zelensky added that Ukraine’s “key priority” is strengthening its air defense, “particularly as winter approaches.” He said Kyiv has been laying the “groundwork” for agreements with its partners and looks forward “to their approval and implementation.”
The Ukrainian president anticipated that the summit would be “productive” both for Ukraine “and Europe as a whole.”
The UK Telegraph reported that Prime Minister Sunak promised to provide Kyiv with £500 million in support to help Ukraine get through the winter. Additionally, Sunak announced another £10 million to assist in the purchase of household electricity.
Sunak urged European leaders to continue providing weapons to Ukraine, vowing that Britain will “stand with Ukraine for as long as it takes.”
European support for Ukraine has become more vital after Congress passed a stopgap spending bill that did not include funding for Ukraine, the Associated Press reported.
President Macron told the leaders that while President Joe Biden reaffirmed Washington’s commitment to Ukraine, it should be up to European countries to act since Ukraine “is in our immediate neighborhood.”
