Taylor Swift Inspires Thousands of Voter Registrations

(TheConservativeTimes.org) – Taylor Swift has once again used her fame, popularity, and the adoration of her fans to influence voter registration numbers.

On Tuesday, September 19, Swift made an Instagram post appealing to her 272 million followers on National Voter Registration Day. Swift urged her fanbase, called Swifties, to use their “powerful” voices in upcoming elections. In her post she referenced the website Vote.org which is a non-profit organization that offers voter registration services for all U.S. states.

Angela Hailey, CEO of Vote.org, reported final numbers on Wednesday, indicating that Swift’s single Instagram post influenced more than 35,000 people to become registered voters. Another 50,000 confirmed their existing registration status. According to Hailey, this is a 25% increase from last year’s numbers. Hailey noted the website had over 1million visitors on Tuesday and that registration of 18year olds increased by 115% over last year.

Hailey also boasted a “wild” increase of 849% of registered voters this year compared to 2021. Hailey believes the “eagerness” of this generation to become involved in elections is a “game changer” and will “shape the outcomes” of coming elections.

Nick Morrow, communications director for Vote.org, posted on Twitter that traffic for the website surged after Swift’s Instagram post. The site averaged 13,000 users every 30 minutes. Morrow, who considers himself a true Swiftie, pointed out the number is significant to Taylor Swift as the number 13 is her birthdate and favorite number. He said Swift has a well-earned reputation for being a “mastermind”.

In 2018, Swift broke her silence about her political views by supporting Phil Bredesen for Tennessee’s Democratic Senate and criticizing his Republican opponent, Marsha Blackburn. Since then, Swift has used her fame to encourage young people to be civic minded and participate in elections. Swift urged her followers to educate themselves about local candidates before voting and to vote based on “who most closely represents your values”.
