Texas A&M Sacks Head Coach after 6 Seasons

(TheConservativeTimes.org) – Texas A&M has decided to fire Jimbo Fisher after the latter failed to give the school a football championship, a move that will cost the school more than $75 million.

Ross Bjork, Texas A&M’s athletic director, came to the decision to fire the coach after consulting with Mark Welsh, the university president, and John Sharp, Texas A&M’s system chancellor.

According to Bjork, a coaching change was “absolutely necessary” given that Fisher failed to live up the expectations of him despite the “tons of optimism” that surrounded his being brought on board. However, the last couple of years have been more or less lackluster for the school, with little momentum and even little hope of securing a championship, Bjork said. The Aggies under Fisher have not won more than nine games in a season over the last six seasons.

“How do we see things trending?” Bjork asked. “We just didn’t see the trend lines improving.”

“We are not reaching our full potential… and something was not quite right about our direction and the plan,” the Texas A&M athletic director added.

Texas A&M brought Fisher on board in 2018, hopeful that the Aggies would also win a championship – Fisher had previously coached Florida State’s Seminoles for eight years, yielding them one championship. The Texas university agreed to give Fisher a 10-year, $75 million contract, making him one of the highest paid NCAA college football coaches.

As of press time, there is still no confirmation of who will replace Fisher. All in all, the coaching change – which would include buyouts for assistant coaches and other staff changes – could see the school fork out as much as $150 million. However, money is no object for Texas A&M, which enjoys deep pockets.

Some speculative candidates for the vacated coaching post include Ole Miss’ Lane Kiffin; Mike Elko from Duke, who also happens to be former defensive coordinator for Texas A&M; Oregon’s Dan Lanning; Florida State’s Mike Norvell, and Jeff Traylor from Texas-San Antonio.
