(TheConservativeTimes.org) – Jack Sullivan, U.S. National Security Advisor, will talk with Foreign Minister Wang Yi as they look to stabilize relations between their countries. The two leaders have met four times over the last sixteen months in Washington, Bangkok, Malta, and Vienna.
The most recent upcoming talks will prove that China is still a priority for the Biden Administration even as the President finishes out his last few months in the White House. Mr. Sullivan could possibly be laying the groundwork to get the foreign policy relationship under control prior to Biden’s exit.
The United States and China both have said that the talks between them are never easy but that there is a lot to talk about. China has been watching the United States closely to see exactly what the results of this presidential election could mean for them.
Donald Trump has made it clear that he would continue to raise tariffs on Chinese goods and could potentially deepen the trade war he pushed for. The Biden Administration and China have experienced tensions as Biden continues to speak on increasing tariffs on Chinese imported electric vehicles.
There is uncertainty around Kamala Harris’ campaign, since she has yet to speak in depth about her vision for our future relationship with China, if she becomes president. The White House has said that Mr. Sullivan’s visit is meant to settle potential issues prior to president Biden leaving the office. They’ve said it’s not necessarily to set up or prepare for a new president.
