Tropical Storm Debby Expected to Be A Soaker

(TheConservativeTimes.org) – Tropical storm Debby is currently offshore but is expected to move into the Carolinas, posing a “major flood threat,” before then heading north, according to the National Hurricane Center.

Debby was traveling northeastward at five miles per hour until it took a break in an area nearly one hundred miles from Myrtle Beach. It’s forecasted that a second landfall in South Carolina will happen by Thursday morning.

“A faster motion toward the north and north-northeast across the Carolinas and the U.S. Mid-Atlantic region is expected on Thursday and Friday,” said an advisory from the hurricane center.

Debby has sixty-mile-per-hour winds, and forecasters have stated that they expect it to strengthen before reaching the coast of South Carolina. This storm has been called “disorganized” with experts thinking that it would be moderate despite the possibility of gaining power before it struck land.

Debby is expected to move toward the middle of North Carolina and into Virginia, reaching the Washington area by Saturday. Experts have also said that it would merge with a frontal zone which means it’ll go into a different air mass and turn into an extratropical cyclone as it goes through New York and Vermont.

The hurricane center’s Richard Pasch said, “Tropical cyclones always produce heavy rain, but normally as they’re moving, you know, it doesn’t accumulate that much in one place. But when they move very slowly, that’s the worst situation.”

Multiple areas across the coastline are expected to see heavy rainfall and winds as the storm travels north.
