Trump Halfway To Eliminating THIS Department!

(TheConservativeTimes.org) – With nearly 50% of its workforce receiving pink slips in a massive government reduction, President Donald Trump’s promise to drain the swamp has reached the Department of Education.

Over 1,300 employees received termination notices and another 572 accepted voluntary buyouts, slashing the bloated bureaucracy from 4,133 to just 2,183 personnel.

The sweeping cuts fulfill a longtime conservative goal of reining in a department that many MAGA supporters have criticized for overreach and indoctrination.

The workforce reduction, which takes effect March 21, 2025, represents a bold step in President Trump’s commitment to shrinking federal bureaucracy.

Education Secretary Linda McMahon delivered the news as part of the administration’s broader plan for “large-scale reductions in force” across government departments.

Since its establishment in 1979, the Department of Education has operated with an annual budget of approximately $238 billion and employed over 4,000 people.

Conservative critics have long questioned whether this massive bureaucracy actually improves education outcomes for American children.

Secretary McMahon emphasized that despite the staff reductions, critical functions like federal student loans, Pell Grants, and funding for students with disabilities will continue uninterrupted.

This strategic approach ensures essential services remain while eliminating unnecessary administrative bloat.

“Today’s reduction in force reflects the Department of Education’s commitment to efficiency, accountability, and ensuring that resources are directed where they matter most: to students, parents, and teachers,” the secretary stated.

“I appreciate the work of the dedicated public servants and their contributions to the department. This is a significant step toward restoring the greatness of the United States education system,” she continued.

The cuts are part of a coordinated effort by the Department of Government Efficiency, led by Elon Musk, to eliminate “waste, fraud, and abuse” throughout the federal government.

For decades, Republicans have proposed scaling back or eliminating the Education Department, which many conservatives view as an example of federal overreach into matters best handled at the state and local levels.

While leftist education groups like the American Federation of Teachers and the National Education Association predictably condemned the cuts, many conservatives applauded the move as long overdue.

Only about 13% of funding for primary and secondary schools comes from federal sources, with the remaining 87% coming from state and local governments.

President Trump has previously criticized the department for “indoctrinating young people with inappropriate racial, sexual, and political material.”

The reduction in force potentially paves the way for broader reforms in American education that prioritize parents’ rights over federal mandates.

Laid-off employees will receive normal pay and benefits until June 9, along with severance or retirement pay.

The White House is reportedly considering additional executive orders to further reduce the department’s functions, though complete dismantling would require congressional approval.

The cuts represent a welcome return to local control for American parents frustrated with declining educational standards and increased federal control over local schools.

The move signals that the administration is serious about putting power back in the hands of parents and communities rather than unelected bureaucrats in Washington.
