Trump Says TikTok Ban Would Empower Meta

(TheConservativeTimes.org) – Recent talk about a potential TikTok ban has surfaced after a threat to the owner to sell the app or to remove it from U.S. app stores. Former president Donald Trump has spoken out about the potential ban and what this would mean.

Trump has stated that a ban on TikTok would empower Meta more and that it would greatly benefit them, saying, “Without TikTok, you can make Facebook bigger, and I consider Facebook to be an enemy of the people.”

With the concerns over national security with TikTok, Trump did admit that “there’s a lot of good and there’s a lot of bad” when talking about the platform. “There are a lot of people on TikTok that love it,” he said, “There are a lot of young kids on TikTok who will go crazy without it.”

TikTok is a social media platform specializing in short-form videos and is owned by the Chinese company ByteDance. The Chinese ownership of the app has caused a lot of concern for people in the States and other countries who use the app. Concerns over national security issues linked to TikTok have led to these motions for a ban.

In 2020 when Trump was in office, he attempted to have TikTok banned from United States app stores as well. However, this didn’t stick and there was no movement to remove TikTok again, until now. The concern comes with the way that China runs its businesses and companies. Chinese companies and organizations must “support, assist and cooperate with the state intelligence work.”

With this said United States lawmakers are stepping up to make a change with the social media app and the potential threats that it has for users. Joe Biden has pushed national security concerns regarding the app and has said that if Congress approves the bill to ban it, he would sign it.
