(TheConservativeTimes.org) – President Donald Trump’s administration has launched a sweeping operation to streamline the federal workforce by targeting hundreds of thousands of federal employees for dismissal.
Specifically, the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) has directed federal agencies to terminate workers who are still in their trial period.
The move marks a significant step toward restructuring the government and fulfilling President Trump’s promise to reduce the size of the federal government.
The initiative has already resulted in the termination of thousands of federal employees across multiple agencies.
The Department of Energy plans to lay off most or all of its 2,000 probationary employees.
Meanwhile, the Small Business Administration has already terminated about 720 employees, roughly 20% of its workforce.
“This is not a mission to reach a quota, this is a mission to streamline the government,” a White House official said.
An OPM spokesperson emphasized the rationale behind the move, stating that “the probationary period is a continuation of the job application process, not an entitlement for permanent employment.”
“Agencies are taking independent action in light of the recent hiring freeze and in support of the president’s broader efforts to restructure and streamline the federal government to better serve the American people at the highest possible standard,” the spokesperson added.
This approach allows agencies to assess employee performance and suitability before granting permanent status.
The Trump administration’s decisive action extends beyond just probationary employees.
President Trump has signed an executive order limiting hiring to one new employee for every four departures, further speeding up the reduction of the federal workforce.
Critics argue that targeting probationary employees may be shortsighted, potentially affecting younger workers with valuable skills.
However, supporters of the initiative argue that this approach allows agencies to retain only the most qualified and dedicated employees, ultimately improving government efficiency and effectiveness.
President Trump’s stance on remote work further exemplifies the administration’s commitment to reducing government waste.
“Nobody is gonna work from home,” Trump declared. “They are gonna be going out, they’re gonna play tennis, they’re gonna play golf, they’re gonna do a lot of things. They’re not working.”
President Trump expects to see a more efficient, streamlined bureaucracy that prioritizes results over red tape as his administration continues its efforts to reshape the federal government.
