(TheConservativeTimes.org) – As the presidential race for 2024 takes off, polls looking at the future Republican primary show that former President Donald Trump is leading by double digits over Ron DeSantis. According to Newsmax, one of the latest Quinnipiac polls has Trump dominating with a 31-point lead.
Fifty-six percent of Republican or Republican-leaning voters have put their confidence in Trump for 2024, the poll reveals. That number has steadily grown over the last few months. In February, Trump led DeSantis 42-36 percent. In March, 47-33 percent. The month of May shows that Trump has increased his support among voters while DeSantis has lost supporters 56-25 percent.
All other candidates have single-digit support. Former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley is only sporting 3 percent of support. In contrast, former Vice President Mike Pence, Sen. Tim Scott, and former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie are all tied at 2 percent. With Trump’s stronghold on the Republican voter base, many speculate about the obstacles the other contenders must overcome to lure them to their side.
Trump has gone after the Florida governor since after the 2022 midterm elections, suggesting that DeSantis had used him to get elected as governor. DeSantis has been dubbed “Ron DeSanctimonious” and called a “RINO” because establishment politicians like Paul Ryan support him.
The Quinnipiac poll also revealed that age is a significant factor to consider for voters. Sixty-five percent of registered voters believe that Joe Biden is too old to run for another term. That number includes 90 percent of Republicans, 69 percent of Independents, and 41 percent of Democrats.
Among all Americans, Biden’s approval rating is underwater with just 36 percent with a favorable view. When it comes to key issues, such as the war in Ukraine, foreign policy, the economy, and immigration, most Americans disapprove of how Biden is handling them.
