(TheConservativeTimes.org) – The leader of a United States thinktank who was indicted on charges for acting as an unregistered agent of China has been arrested.
Federal prosecutors in Manhattan accused Gal Lyft of paying a former U.S. government official on behalf of principals in China. Luft is.a dual U.S.-Israeli citizen, and he was arrested in Cyprus last year, but he fled when he was released on bail. Prosecutors have now announced that he’s been re-arrested.
Luft is the co-director of the Institute For the Analysis of Global Security, which describes itself as a think tank focused on security, energy, and economic trends. He posted on X last year stating that he’d never been an arms dealer and that these charges weren’t politically motivated.
The United States Justice Department is getting more strict with the alleged agents of adversaries like China and Russia. Just last week prosecutors charged two employees of a Russian media company for scheming to influence the 2024 election.
They also charged a former New York State Government employee with promoting China’s interests. The U.S. is becoming more diligent when it comes to investigating individuals that may be tied to adversarial nations like China and Russia.
However, Republicans believe that Luft may serve as a reliable source for their investigation into Joe Biden’s corruption. When Luft is extradited, he will go to the Manhattan federal court and will be asked to enter a plea deal.
