(TheConservativeTimes.org) – The UN agency on Monday called for donors to provide aid to Ukrainian communities that are facing problems due to the war with Russia.

As the war hits its second year, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs is looking for $4.2 Billion in humanitarian aid for Ukraine in 2024.

It’s no secret that Ukrainians have been facing the consequences of war, and their resources and communities have been greatly affected because of this war. Martin Griffiths, the UN aid chief, said, “Hundreds of thousands of children live in communities on the front lines of the war, terrified, traumatized, and deprived of their basic needs. That fact alone should compel us to do everything we can to bring more humanitarian assistance to Ukraine.”

The appeal for funding includes $3.1 billion to help 8.5 million people in need of aid, while also asking for $1.1 billion to support 2.3 million Ukrainian refugees and their communities.

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs received 67% of the aid that it asked for last year, which had helped them originally, but they have decreased the appeal amount as they discuss funding others who are facing difficulty as well, like those in Gaza.

With this being said, they stated that there are millions of people, nearly half the Ukrainian population, that need assistance.

“We continue to remain in negotiation with the Russian government about how to get access to those people who are perhaps in the most urgent of need since it has now been two years since any real, effective, regular, reliable humanitarian aid has reached them,” said Griffiths.

The request stated that only half of school-aged kids are enrolled and only 40% to 60% of adults are employed, with millions vulnerable and needing aid. They continued to state that many host countries have continued to help them, but refugees are the ones who still need help.

Russia’s invasion started in February 2022 and it has made 6.3 million people flee to other countries for safety and stability.
