(TheConservativeTimes.org) – According to unsealed, redacted search warrants, the 6-year-old who shot his teacher in Newport News, Virginia earlier this year had boasted to a school employee, “I shot that b*tch dead,” CNN reported.
The unsealed records, obtained by WTKR, describe what occurred after Richneck Elementary School teacher Abigail Zwerner was shot by a student on January 6, 2023.
The 6-year-old boy admitted to school officials that he obtained his mother’s gun the night before and shot Zwerner.
According to the statement Zwerner gave to police in the hospital, the boy pulled out the gun and pointed it at her. After pausing briefly, he fired the shot that hit Zwerner in her left hand and torso, according to the police affidavit. Zwerner then fled the room and went to the main office.
James Ellenson, the attorney for the boy, told CNN that the 6-year-old suffers from “extreme emotional issues” and is in therapy.
The unsealed documents also include additional information about a previous incident involving the boy in which he allegedly choked another teacher to the point where she was unable to breathe.
In a statement last Tuesday, Newport News Public Schools said it has been cooperating with the police and other authorities in the investigation.
Deja Taylor, the boy’s mother, pleaded guilty in June to federal gun charges in connection to the January shooting as part of a plea deal. She will be sentenced on October 18 and could face between 18 months and 2 years in prison.
Taylor, 26, pleaded guilty to a state child neglect charge on Tuesday for which she could serve six months in state prison, according to NBC News. She will be sentenced on October 27.
Abigail Zwerner filed a $40 million lawsuit against the school district, alleging that administrators ignored multiple warnings from students and staff on the day of the shooting that the boy had a gun and was an imminent threat.
