(TheConservativeTimes.org) – Ben Shapiro launched a petition and wrote a letter to President Trump with a single goal in mind: a pardon for Derek Chauvin.

The popular conservative commentator launched the effort to overturn what he calls the “defining achievement of the Woke movement.”
He argues that Chauvin was railroaded by a justice system pressured by media coverage and riots rather than evidence.
Shapiro’s petition to President Trump focuses on the former Minneapolis police officer’s federal conviction in the George Floyd case.
Chauvin is currently serving concurrent sentences: a 22.5-year state sentence for second-degree unintentional murder and a 21-year federal sentence for civil rights violations.
A presidential pardon would only affect the federal conviction, not his state charges.
In his appeal to the president, Shapiro makes the case that Chauvin’s trial was fundamentally unfair due to extreme external pressures on the jury to deliver a guilty verdict regardless of evidence.
He argues Floyd’s death resulted primarily from pre-existing health conditions and drug use rather than Chauvin’s actions.
“George Floyd was high on fentanyl; he had a significant pre-existing heart condition,” Shapiro stated in his explanation of why Chauvin deserves clemency.
The conservative commentator directly challenges the mainstream narrative of Floyd’s death that sparked nationwide protests in 2020.
“Make no mistake—the Derek Chauvin conviction represents the defining achievement of the Woke movement in American politics. The country cannot turn the page on that dark, divisive, and racist era without righting this terrible wrong,” Shapiro said.
Even Elon Musk has already signaled potential support for the pardon campaign.
When presented with information about Shapiro’s petition, Musk responded with: “Something to think about.”
This comment from one of President Trump’s closest allies suggests that the White House could seriously consider the proposal.
Shapiro highlights that Chauvin was never accused of racist motives during his trial despite the narrative pushed by Black Lives Matter activists and the mainstream media.
The conservative host argues this reveals how the entire case was built on a politically motivated foundation rather than facts.
In November 2023, Chauvin survived a stabbing attack in prison allegedly linked to Black Lives Matter sympathizers, further emphasizing the politically charged nature of his incarceration.
His former co-officers have received shorter sentences, with some already released from prison.
Under these circumstances, there was no opportunity for blind justice to work, and a man is now rotting in prison because of it,” Shapiro said in the letter.
While President Trump has not yet commented publicly on the petition, it aligns with his previous criticism of weaponized justice and politically motivated prosecutions.
Shapiro specifically thanked the president in his letter for his “commitment to ending the weaponization of the American justice system,” setting the stage for what could become a significant presidential action if approved.
Critics of the pardon effort warn that such a move could be perceived as racially motivated and further inflame tensions.
However, supporters argue that pardoning Chauvin would represent a powerful stand against mob justice and political pressure campaigns that undermine due process and the rule of law.
