(TheConservativeTimes.org) – Foreign hackers recently launched a vicious attack on Georgia’s election system, threatening the integrity of the democratic process.

On October 14, the first day of early voting, Georgia’s voter registration website suffered a massive cyberattack.

Over 420,000 IP addresses from around the world bombarded the system, attempting to crash the site and disrupt the absentee ballot request process.

Georgia Secretary of State’s Chief Operating Officer Gabriel Sterling confirmed the attack’s severity.

“We saw a spike of around 420,000 individual entities attempting to access the absentee ballot portal,” Sterling stated.

Georgia’s cybersecurity team quickly detected the attack, restoring normal site traffic levels half an hour later.

While the attack’s origin remains unclear, evidence suggests that at least 20 countries were involved.

The timing of this attack is particularly alarming as it comes with the start of early voting in Georgia, a crucial battleground state for the 2024 presidential election.

Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger stated, “You look at the turnout — we’re almost pushing 1.4 million who’ve already voted early or who we’ve accepted their absentee ballots.”

This attack is just the latest in a series of threats faced by election officials across the country.

From cybersecurity breaches to violent intimidation of poll workers, it seems enemies of democracy will stop at nothing to undermine free and fair elections.
