(TheConservativeTimes.org) – Elon Musk’s social media platform X is making alterations to its artificial intelligence Chatbot after five different secretaries of state in the United States warned that it was spreading misinformation in regards to the upcoming election.
Election officials from New Mexico, Minnesota, Michigan, Washington, and Pennsylvania sent a letter to Elon Musk regarding the issues. They stated that Grok, the AI Chatbot, was producing false information about state ballot deadlines after Joe Biden dropped out of the presidential race.
They requested that this Chatbot direct people to CanIVote.org instead, as that’s an official voting information website run by the National Association of Secretaries of State.
The officials said, “We appreciate X’s action to improve their platform and hope they continue to make improvements that will ensure their users have access to accurate information from trusted sources in this critical election year.”
Although Grok is only available to subscribers of the premium version of X, the secretaries said that this information from Grok reached many social media platforms and therefore reached millions of people. According to the secretaries, Grok continued producing misinformation for ten days before it was corrected.
Getting the AI to send a link for more information solves one issue but it doesn’t address the entire issue of Grok giving out misleading information or misleading generated images. It has been used to create fake images of candidates, such as Kamala Harris and Donald Trump.
Social media platforms have been getting criticized after being accused of spreading misinformation, restricting information, and contributing to the spread of fake news in the wake of an election, post-pandemic, and other tensions across the globe that could be taken advantage of.
