JUST IN: The streets of a Democrat-controlled city turned into a chilling scene late last night when two police officers were ambushed and shot while responding to a weapons call.
The horrifying incident left one officer critically wounded while the suspect remains at large.
The Milwaukee officers, with over six years of experience each, were attacked in an alley near 25th and Garfield.
This brazen assault marks the latest in a disturbing trend of attacks on law enforcement in a city where violence against police has reached crisis levels.
The officers were responding to reports of an armed suspect when they were suddenly fired upon while approaching on foot through an alley.
Unable to return fire, both officers suffered gunshot wounds in what authorities are calling a deliberate ambush.
A 32-year-old officer is fighting for his life in critical condition, while his 29-year-old colleague sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
Milwaukee Police Association President Alex Cyreia expressed outrage at the attack, highlighting an alarming pattern of violence against law enforcement.
“Stop trying to kill my police officers,” Cyreia demanded, noting that four officers have been attacked in just five months.
Mayor Cavalier Johnson issued a direct warning to the shooter, who remains at large.
“It’s a sad day. It’s a very sad day. Because no officer, no person in law enforcement should ever, ever be fired upon,” he said.
“For the person that shot our officers – if you don’t turn yourself in…know that the men and women of this department, they’re going to find you,” Johnson added.
Law enforcement has indicated they know the identity of the suspect and have launched a manhunt.
The Milwaukee Police Association released a powerful statement highlighting the sacrifices officers make daily while facing increasing danger.
“It is with profound sorrow and outrage that we confirm that two Milwaukee police officers were tragically shot and critically injured in the line of duty tonight. Our thoughts are with these officers, their families, friends, and colleagues. These officers face unimaginable suffering and they have long roads ahead of them.
“This senseless act of violence has struck the very heart of our department and our community. We have reached a breaking point. Violence in our city is out of control, and those who protect our neighborhoods are increasingly in the crosshairs… Our officers wear the badge with pride and honor, but our officers need more leadership from the city to bring an end to this violence.”
The department revealed a staggering statistic: five officers killed in the line of duty over just seven years, with dozens more shot or shot at while serving their communities.
The attack comes amid a nationwide crisis of disrespect and violence toward law enforcement that has escalated dramatically in recent years.
While officers continue risking their lives to protect communities, soft-on-crime policies and anti-police rhetoric from the radical left have created an environment where criminals feel emboldened to target those who wear the badge.
The Milwaukee Police Department’s homicide division is leading the investigation.
