In a concerning development for consumers nationwide, a new massive food recall has been announced.

A New Jersey-based company is recalling hundreds of thousands of pounds of ready-to-eat bologna due to misbranding issues.

These products contain undeclared meat or poultry ingredients not mentioned on the labels, posing a significant risk to consumers with dietary restrictions or allergies.

This situation affects a wide array of products distributed to major retailers nationwide, including Walmart and Target, raising questions about compliance and oversight in food labeling.

The affected company is Gaiser’s European Style Provisions Inc., which issued a recall of roughly 143,416 pounds of its bologna.

Despite the significant scale of the recall, no confirmed adverse reactions have been reported.

However, the mere presence of undeclared allergens or ingredients makes the issue serious enough for the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to take prompt action.

The recall involves products produced between March 20 and June 20, affecting various types of bologna, including “FAMILY TREE BOLOGNA VEAL,” “BABUSHKA’S RECIPE CHICKEN BOLOGNA,” and others.

The problem was discovered following a complaint filed with the Office of Inspector General, showcasing the importance of vigilance and accountability in food safety.

Consumers concerned about potential illness are strongly advised not to consume the recalled products and should consult a healthcare provider if necessary.

The Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has advised consumers to check their refrigerators and freezers for the affected products, to either dispose of them or return them to the place of purchase.

Restaurants and institutions are also urged not to serve these products, highlighting the widespread impact of such labeling errors.

Gaiser’s European Style Provisions Inc. is responsible for the recall, and the USDA has shared images of the package labels to help consumers identify the recalled items.

As consumers, it is important to demand accountability and transparency from companies engaged in food production.

Failure to declare ingredients not only violates federal standards but also endangers lives.

The establishment number “EST. 5385” found inside the USDA mark of inspection is a critical identifier for these products.

Some items might have potentially been weighed, wrapped, and labeled in retail stores at the time of purchase.
