Highlighting the dangers he faces as he tackles the Democrat-created illegal immigration crisis, border czar Tom Homan needs high-level security to carry out his mission to protect Americans.
A bombshell report revealed that Homan’s security detail costs as much as $1 million every month.
Although liberals blasted the price tag, they conveniently ignore the border crisis itself and the very real threats against officials enforcing laws.
This expense includes over $500,000 in agent salaries plus additional costs for travel, accommodations, and other expenses necessary to maintain his security bubble.
The Department of Homeland Security has defended these expenditures, citing serious threats against Homan due to his role in implementing President Donald Trump’s border enforcement policies.
Unlike many officials who merely talk about securing the border, Homan is actively involved in executing what some describe as “the largest separation operation in U.S. history,” putting him directly in the crosshairs of open-borders activists.
Homan’s security detail includes roughly 30 agents from Homeland Security Investigations providing round-the-clock protection.
This team monitors his home, travels with him to the White House and ICE headquarters, and sometimes employs a four-vehicle motorcade to ensure his safety in public spaces.
Speaking for the Department of Homeland Security, Tricia McLaughlin said, “DHS ensures our leaders are safe and protected. We will continue to take measures to ensure Mr. Homan and his family are safe.”
The security measures come after DHS conducted an intelligence threat assessment that determined Homan faces genuine dangers.
Since his appointment by President Trump, Homan has received numerous death threats, requiring additional security from state troopers in some instances.
These threats are not theoretical: they represent the real-world consequences of standing up against illegal immigration and enforcing America’s sovereignty.
Critics, primarily from liberal circles, have quickly questioned these security costs.
Former DHS spokesperson Alex Howard complained: “Tom Homan is costing taxpayers $1M a month in security—more than some cabinet secretaries. For a guy whose job is mostly Fox hits and rage-tweeting about the border, that’s a hell of a budget.”
This criticism ignores the billions of dollars American taxpayers spend every year on illegal immigration, a cost that dwarfs Homan’s security expenses.
It also dismisses the legitimate threats faced by officials enforcing immigration laws in an increasingly hostile political environment.
For comparison, Education Secretary Betsy DeVos received protection costing between $5 million and $12 million each year during the previous Trump administration.
National security advisers have typically received similar levels of protection when facing threats.
This makes Homan’s security arrangements consistent with those of other high-profile officials targeted by radical elements.
Homan does not hold a Cabinet-level position as his official title is White House Executive Associate Director of Enforcement and Removal Operations.
However, his high-profile role as President Trump’s “border czar” makes him a lightning rod for those opposed to secure borders.
