While the world faces critical security threats, President Donald Trump blasted shameless prosecutors for conducting a “political witch hunt.”
Specifically, the president has called out the legal plots against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as nothing but an act of “insanity.”
President Trump declared the United States “will not stand for this travesty of justice” as Netanyahu battles corruption charges amid negotiations with Hamas and tensions with Iran.
The president took to social media to condemn Israeli prosecutors, comparing Netanyahu’s legal troubles to his own experiences with politically motivated investigations.
President Trump did not mince words about the trial’s timing, particularly as Israel navigates complex security challenges.
“It is INSANITY doing what the out-of-control prosecutors are doing to Bibi Netanyahu,” he said.
The president also asserted that the judicial process would interfere with Netanyahu’s ability to conduct talks with Hamas and manage tensions with Iran.
The trial against Netanyahu, which began in 2020 after a 2019 indictment, includes charges of bribery, fraud, and breach of trust, all of which the Israeli leader denies.
The president emphasized the critical role the United States plays in Israel’s security, suggesting this gives America leverage in how its ally conducts its internal affairs.
“The United States of America spends billions of dollars a year… protecting and supporting Israel. We are not going to stand for this,” President Trump declared.
“How is it possible that the Prime Minister of Israel can be forced to sit in a Courtroom all day long, over NOTHING (Cigars, Bugs Bunny Doll, etc.). It is a POLITICAL WITCH HUNT, very similar to the Witch Hunt that I was forced to endure,” he added.
Netanyahu’s trial has faced numerous delays since 2020 due to COVID-19, regional conflicts, and other pressing issues.
Most recently, Netanyahu’s defense team attempted to delay his court appearance, citing urgent diplomatic and security concerns following recent conflicts with Iran.
However, the court rejected these requests, forcing the prime minister to continue his court appearances despite the pressing national security situation.
In a show of support, President Trump declared: “It was the United States of America that saved Israel, and now it is going to be the United States of America that saves Bibi Netanyahu. THIS TRAVESTY OF ‘JUSTICE’ CAN NOT BE ALLOWED!”
Netanyahu expressed gratitude, writing on X: “Thank you again, @realDonaldTrump. Together, we will make the Middle East Great Again!”
Not all Israeli officials welcomed President Trump’s intervention. Opposition leader Yair Lapid pushed back against what he viewed as interference in Israel’s sovereign affairs.
“We are grateful to President Trump but as [MK] Simcha Rothman said – the president should not interfere in a legal process in an independent country,” Lapid stated.
President Trump’s comments come at a critical moment, with reports suggesting Netanyahu is engaged in negotiations that could lead to a ceasefire with Hamas.
The president suggested these talks are being undermined by the distraction of the trial, raising the stakes of the legal proceedings beyond Israel’s borders to affect regional stability.
