Chevrolet just brought back the legendary 350 cubic inch V8 — and stuffed it into a pickup truck that also has a screen bigger than most kitchen TVs.
Story Snapshot
- The 2027 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 debuts two all-new V8 engines — a 5.7-liter and a 6.6-liter — replacing the outgoing 5.3-liter and 6.2-liter engines.
- Chevrolet calls it the “most powerful Silverado ever” and claims the 6.6-liter V8 is the most powerful naturally aspirated V8 in its class — though official horsepower numbers have not been released yet.
- Every 2027 Silverado comes standard with a 16.3-inch infotainment screen and a 12.2-inch digital driver display, plus an available front passenger screen on top trims.
- Pricing is expected to start just below $40,000, with fully loaded trims pushing past $80,000.
The Return of the Chevy 350 — In a Truck
Chevrolet confirmed the 2027 Silverado 1500 will offer two brand-new sixth-generation Small Block V8 engines. The 5.7-liter V8 is the smaller of the two and replaces the current 5.3-liter engine, which made 355 horsepower. The 6.6-liter V8 replaces the outgoing 6.2-liter.
Both engines are part of the same Small Block family Chevrolet debuted in the Corvette Grand Sport earlier this year. That bloodline matters — these are not warmed-over truck motors.[1]

Chevy has not released official horsepower or torque numbers yet. Rumors and credible leaks suggest the 5.7-liter will make around 400 horsepower, up from 355 in the current truck. The 6.6-liter is rumored to land somewhere between 475 and 500 horsepower.
Those would be serious numbers for a half-ton pickup. For context, the current 6.2-liter already holds the class title for naturally aspirated V8 power — so the bar the new engine has to clear is one Chevy already set.[2]
What Chevrolet Is Actually Claiming — And What It Is Not Saying
Chevrolet’s own newsroom calls the 2027 Silverado “the most powerful Silverado ever” and says the 6.6-liter V8 is “the most powerful naturally aspirated V8 engine in its class.” That second claim is narrower than it sounds. It excludes supercharged and turbocharged engines.
It also compares only naturally aspirated engines — meaning no forced induction. That is a real distinction, not a trick, but buyers should know the full context before reading the headline too broadly.[1]
Official specs for towing, payload, and fuel economy have not been released. Estimates from independent sources put the maximum towing capacity above 13,000 pounds, but those figures have not been confirmed.[3] Chevrolet says full details will come later this year when production begins.
That is a common launch strategy — build excitement, hold the hard numbers. It is smart marketing, but it means shoppers should wait for the full spec sheet before making decisions based on performance claims alone.
The Cabin Got a Real Upgrade — Not Just a Bigger Screen
Every 2027 Silverado, including the base Work Truck trim, now comes standard with a 16.3-inch infotainment touchscreen and a 12.2-inch digital instrument cluster. The top trims — ZR2 and High Country — also add an 11.5-inch front passenger screen.
That passenger screen is a feature Ram has offered, and Chevy is now matching it. The first-ever panoramic sunroof on a Silverado is also available. These are not minor tweaks. This is a full cabin rethink.[6]

A 10-speed automatic transmission is now standard across all four engine options. That includes the upgraded 2.7-liter TurboMax four-cylinder and the segment-exclusive Duramax 3.0-liter turbo-diesel inline-six.
The diesel is still in the lineup — good news for buyers who want torque and fuel efficiency over raw horsepower. Chevy is not chasing one type of buyer here. Four engine choices across seven trims give this truck unusually broad appeal.[5]
Seven Trims, Three Off-Road Options, and a Price Range to Match
The 2027 Silverado launches with seven trim levels: Work Truck, Custom, Custom Trail Boss, Silverado (replacing the old LT), Trail Boss, ZR2, and High Country. Three of those seven are lifted off-road variants, which reflects the strong demand Chevrolet has seen in recent years.
The ZR2 is the most off-road capable Silverado ever offered. Edmunds expects pricing to start just below $40,000 and climb past $80,000 on fully loaded ZR2 and High Country models.[2]
Why This Truck Matters Beyond the Specs
The Silverado is one of the best-selling vehicles in America. When Chevrolet makes a move this big — new engines, new cabin, new trims — it sends a message to Ford and Ram that the V8 truck war is very much alive.
At a time when the auto industry keeps pushing buyers toward electric vehicles, Chevrolet is doubling down on gasoline power and giving customers more of what they actually want. That is a choice worth respecting, and the market will tell us quickly whether it was the right one.
