The attack killed two people, reportedly his ex-wife, Rhonda, and one child, while critically wounding three others, including two relatives and a family friend. Dorgan died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound at the scene as horrified players and families fled.

Chilling Social Media Threats Preceded Attack

Hours before the shooting, Dorgan posted an ominous warning on X, formerly Twitter, responding to actor Kevin Sorbo with the message: “Keep bashing us. But do not wonder why we Go BERSERK.” The post included a photo of Representative Sarah McBride, connecting perceived criticism of transgender individuals to violent retaliation.

Family Breakdown Following Gender Transition

Court records reveal the shooting stemmed from escalating family conflicts following Dorgan’s 2020 gender reassignment surgery. Rhonda Dorgan filed for divorce in 2020, initially citing the surgery and alleging her husband exhibited “narcissistic + personality disorder traits,” though she later amended the filing to irreconcilable differences.

The divorce was finalized in June 2021, after which Dorgan relocated to Jacksonville, Florida, working as a truck driver. Prior to the transition, Dorgan lived at his father-in-law’s home for seven years, where tensions eventually exploded into multiple dismissed legal disputes.

Pattern of Dismissed Threats and Mental Health Warnings

Dorgan’s daughter revealed her father “struggled with serious mental health issues and was very sick” before the attack. In 2020, Dorgan filed reports against his father-in-law for alleged threats using anti-transgender slurs and supposed gang retaliation over the surgery, but authorities dismissed the charges. Dorgan also accused his mother-in-law of assault in a separate case that was likewise dismissed.

Three victims remain hospitalized in critical condition as investigators examine whether Dorgan’s access to firearms should have been restricted, given documented mental health struggles and domestic conflicts.
