(TheConservativeTimes.org) – A former FBI agent has been charged with lying about the Biden family’s connections to a Ukrainian energy firm.
Alexander Smirnov was indicted by a grand jury on Thursday for lying or “making a false statement” as well as “creating a fictitious record.” Smirnov was arrested in Las Vegas at Harry Reid International Airport after arriving from a trip abroad. Smirnov, who is 43 years old, would face 25 years in prison if he is convicted.
The indictment said, “Despite repeated admonishments that he must provide truthful information to the FBI and that he must not fabricate evidence, the defendant provided false derogatory information about the Bidens.”
Alexander Smirnov claimed that Hunter Biden used his father’s name to solicit millions of dollars while sitting on the board of Kyiv-based Burisma. He also said that Hunter Biden was hired by Burisma so that he could “protect us, through his dad, from all kinds of problems”. The result was that they supposedly paid Joe Biden and Hunter Biden $5 million each in 2015 and 2016. As a result of his claims, this pushed for an inquiry into the president’s impeachment.
At the time, the House Speaker, Kevin McCarthy, talked about “bribery allegations” that were made by a “trusted FBI informant.”
Hunter Biden’s lawyer, Abbe Lowell, had said from the beginning that something was going on and that these claims were false. “We were right and the air is out of their balloon,” Lowell said.
The claims have been deemed as false, but some investigation continues for Hunter Biden who was charged with tax evasion last year.
