4.8 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes New York City?!

(TheConservativeTimes.org) – An earthquake hit New York City early in the morning with residents experiencing a rumble in an area where earthquakes aren’t as prevalent.

The earthquake was said to have a preliminary magnitude of 4.8. People reported feeling the earthquake in Connecticut and Massachusetts as well as the Boston and Philadelphia areas. After effects were felt as far as New Hampshire with residents feeling the tremors.

More than a dozen aftershocks were felt in the hours following the earthquake around the region. The fire department said there were no reports of injury or death from the earthquake. However, residents of New York were surprised by the quake as they don’t usually get earthquakes in that region.

Camille Lewis, who was in a cafe during the earthquake, spoke out about the earthquake, saying, “I haven’t been in an earthquake in New York and honestly I was scared that something was happening. I’m glad that the building I was in held up and honestly, I’m just glad that everybody is safe.”

“I was like, ‘Do I need to get under a table?’ Everybody was looking around, wondering what was going on. It lasted for a while. Definitely weird,” she continued.

Once the earthquake was over, people were safe but jittery from the event. Many were scrambling to get in touch with their family, friends, and children.

The Mayor, Eric Adams, said that people should continue going about their regular day but that this was the biggest earthquake felt on the East Coast in over a century.

Transportation in the area was interrupted as some planes were grounded while other flights were delayed. Trains were slowed in New York City as well.

Many were living their daily lives as normal when the earthquake hit. Some people noticed glassware was shaking, others noticed their clothes in their closet moving, and some felt the ground moving.

There aren’t usually many earthquakes on the East Coast, but when they do occur they are usually felt in a wide range of areas because the bedrock on the East is softer than in other places.
