Apple Will Fix Bug Suggesting Palestine Flag

(TheConservativeTimes.org) – Apple says that it will fix a bug that suggests the Palestine flag emoji when typing in “Jerusalem.” They said that the reason for the suggestion was a software issue during their latest update.

The bug didn’t affect every Apple user since some people didn’t get that suggestion. Rachel Riley, a British television presenter, brought attention to the suggestion on social media, sparking a huge debate. The conversation was looking into whether Israelis or Palestinians would be able to consider Jerusalem “their capital.”

She states that when she types in the capital of Israel, Jerusalem, the Palestinian flag will come up.

Riley expressed her issues, saying, “Showing double standards with respect to Israel is a form of anti-Semitism, which is itself a form of racism against Jewish people.”

She continued, “Please explain whether this is an intentional act by your company, or whether you have no control over rogue programmers.”

She ended her post by saying, “a Jewish woman concerned about the global rise in anti-Semitism.”

Jerusalem is viewed by the United Nations as two cities which is East Jerusalem but the West Bank area is currently Palestinian territory and is currently occupied by Israelis. The two-state solution has been pushed especially since the war in Gaza began.

With this all being said, this isn’t the first time that Apple has been called out for controversy regarding global affairs. Some of the previous issues with this have been when Apple Maps misrepresented areas of countries like Russia. The controversy has heightened as the technology began making changes for certain people depending on where they lived.
